Protestant theology in Tübingen is structured and taught in the conventional German tradition:
- Old Testament
- New Testament
- Church History
- Systematic Theology
- Pastoral Theology
- Missiology and Ecumenical Theology
- Religious Studies, Jewish Studies and Islamic Studies
This classic structure is broadened and completed by a number of special areas of interest which are represented through specialised chairs: Studies in antique Judaism, Late Middle Ages and the Reformation, Hermeneutics and Intercultural Dialogue, Ethics, Homiletics. Furthermore, there are several collaborations with other faculties and institutes of the University.
The faculty provides different courses: 1. Pfarramtsstudium (university training to be a minister in a Protestant church), 2. Diplomstudiengang (Theology and Religious Studies), 3. Magisterstudiengang (M.A. in Theology), 4. Magister im Nebenfach (complementary courses to other university courses), 5. Lehramt am Gymnasium, Staatsexamen (university training to be a high school teacher). The faculty provides fascilities for doctoral studies.
Judaistic Studies is an important area of research at the faculty. Since winter term 2004/05 it is possible to enroll for a special course (BA/MA) organised by the Protestant faculty in collaboration with the faculty of Cultural Studies and Humanities.
The faculty supports the courses of Business and Economics Education and Social Economics at the University of Hohenheim as well as the course of Technical Education at the University of Stuttgart.
